Molecular weight
Molecular weight is commonly used informally for molecular mass information. Relative molecular mass is dimensionless; molar mass is reported in units such as g/mol. Identify the convention used in the source.
Reading example
A salt and its corresponding molecular ion can have different formulas and molar masses. Match the exact stated form before converting mass to amount of substance; mass spectrometry additionally requires an ion and charge assignment.
Keep the evidence with the term
When this term appears on a report, retain the sample identifier and original wording. A glossary definition explains terminology; it cannot certify a supplied lot or replace a method-specific interpretation.
